So let me welcome you to your, 'human energy system' in a little more detail. Let's delve in!
Energy psychology is the name for a broad range of techniques that utilise the human energy system to help with psychological problems such as fears and anxieties.
The human energy system comprises:
The theory behind these techniques is that stresses, traumas and negative emotional reactions to events can be stored in the body as blockages in our energy system. These can in time, manifest as physical diseases, emotional or mental disturbances and even increased susceptibility to accidents. Stimulating the aura, chakras or points along the meridian channels seems to remove the blockages and allow our body/mind system to process the problems. As the energy is brought back into balance, the negative emotions diminish and healing takes place.
Many energy techniques can be practised as 'stand-alone' therapies and several are used widely as self-help techniques. However, when combined with other approaches, such as hypnotherapy, counselling and psychotherapy, or with energetic healing modalities such as acupuncture, Reiki and reflexology, a new dimension is added, an acceleration of the process of change.
Energy psychology techniques seem to allow the therapeutic process to flow more quickly and more smoothly, effecting more rapid, yet gentle healing. Some practitioners have labelled them 'power therapies'.
At the cutting edge in the field of energy psychology is EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), which utilises the meridian system an is therefore often known as meridian therapy or meridian psychotherapy.
A basic theory of energy work is that the energy field, or aura body, contains energy structures and channels through which the life force flows. The most well known of these are the chakras and the meridians. The chakras are often referred to in metaphysical and spiritual work and are thought to act something like transformers, taking energy in one form and converting it into another. The meridians are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine,(TCM) acupuncture, acupressure, chi kung and reiki and are considered to be primary channels for the life force energy, much like an 'energy bloodstream'
EFT tapping uses the same energy meridians in the body as acupuncture. When the flow of energy becomes blocked because of pain, trauma or an experience, fears can start to grow. EFT helps to alter that flow of energy. We can work to process those emotions through tapping on various parts of the face and body. matching that with positive statements, we can transform our negative beliefs into positive ones. Using tapping in your daily routine can help with daily stresses and anxieties.
There are many sequences that a therapist will draw from however the simplest sequence to start with is actually called the 'shortened' sequence which comprises of the following tapping areas.
An example affirmation to tap on to start with the basics is:
Change:
Simply choose one of the above that feels good when you read or say it and tap on the tapping points suggested in the shortened version. It's an easy exercise and a little fun to try. Just stay curious that way nothing is ever lost.
